From its sparkling color to its precious stones, the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 crown was designed to "showcase Filipino identity."

This was according to former beauty queen Shamcey Supsup who oversees this year's pageant as Miss Universe Philippines national director.

"We really wanted to showcase the Filipino identity in our crown, so from the color to the precious stones that we used for the crown," Shamcey told reporters during a virtual interview on Tuesday.

The silver headpiece featured the colors of the Philippine flag, with blue, red, and yellow stones.

"These gems are emblems of dreams, ambition, happiness, pride, self-worth, and empowerment," MUP said in a statement.

The Miss Universe Philippines crown's design is spearheaded by Design Council head Albert Andrada, and made by local pawnshop Villarica.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 pageant events are set to take place without an audience in Baguio City, including the grand finale to air Sunday, October 25 on GMA-7.

Fans from all over the world can also catch the preliminary interview, national costume, swimsuit and evening gown competitions when they subscribe to the Ring Light series on empire.ph.

Shamcey was named Miss Universe Philippines Organization national director earlier this year following a new partnership with the international Miss Universe Organization. — LA, GMA News
