'58th' to premiere at Busan International Film Festival in October

"58th" is heading to the Busan International Film Festival next month!

The documentary film will premiere at the Documentary Showcase of BIFF's Wide-Angle section from October 6 to 15.

Recognized by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) as an A-List film festival, BIFF is one of Asia's leading film festivals and a major platform for Asian cinema.

"58th" follows the story of Reynafe Castillo as she continues her years-long fight for answers and her father's recognition as the 58th victim of the Maguindanao massacre. Her story also reflects the grief of the victims' families and their pursuit of justice following the tragedy.

The Maguindanao massacre happened on November 23, 2009, in the town of Ampatuan. It is considered the deadliest single attack on journalists in world history. The massacre resulted in the death of 58 individuals, 32 of whom were journalists.

"58th" is directed by Carl Joseph Papa and stars Glaiza De Castro. It premiered in various film festivals abroad before landing at the Cinemalaya Film Festival in August.

It is set to make its North American premiere at the Manila International Film Festival (MIFF) in Los Angeles next month.

"58th" is also among the eight films in contention to represent the Philippines in the Best International Feature Film category of the 99th Academy Awards.
