Rain Matienzo, TikTok’s ‘Conyo Girl,’ bares plans to join Miss Universe Philippines
Rain Matienzo definitely has her eyes on the Miss Universe Philippines crown!
In an interview with GMA News Online, Tuesday, the 5’1” “Conyo Girl” said joining the pageant was one of her “concrete goals” for the future.
“Since I just finished school, I’m looking at how the current pageant will go because it’s the first time that they won’t consider height,” she said in a mix of English and Filipino.
“I just wanna see how people my height will carry the pageant and maybe assess from there.”
According to the beauty queen aspirant, she hasn’t prepared anything yet in the physical aspect, but she is focusing her energy on “preparing myself emotionally and mentally.”
Rain said she had let go of the dream because she “stopped growing tall,” but after the lifting of the height requirement, she thought of considering joining again.
“I just wanna see if I still have a shot at getting that crown. I think it’s about time that more ladies who are in a lower height range will be represented in the pageant. I’m excited,” she said.
Asked what advocacy she would embody when she joins, Rain said it would definitely be education.
“I feel like education in the Philippines is a very controversial yet crucial topic to discuss and I wanna be part of that conversation especially because I’ve seen both private and public schools,” she said.
“The disparity between those realities, there’s something that needs to be addressed.”
Rain said she set 2025 as her deadline for joining. She clarified in a previous interview, however, that she was open to taking the chance when the opportunity comes earlier.
Earlier this month, Rain said she skipped this year’s pageant because she was not yet prepared. – RC, GMA News
