Beatrice Gomez reveals family home hit by Typhoon Odette, asks public to help Cebu
Miss Universe Philippines 2021 Beatrice Gomez revealed that her family's home in Cebu was hit by Typhoon Odette.
On Friday, Bea shared on Instagram that she was happily on a video call with her mom and sister when the typhoon hit.
"I was on FaceTime with my sister and mama when the storm was just about to hit. It only took minutes from a happy conversation to shift into a ghastly phone call as I heard them struggle the entire night," she said.
Fortunately, Bea said that her family was kept safe as the storm passed.
"It’s only a few days away until Christmas and yet my heart bleeds for Cebu. My family’s home is just one of many devastated by one of the strongest typhoons that hit Cebu and the surrounding provinces," the beauty queen said.
Asking the public for help, Bea said, "I am now knocking on your hearts to help me in partnership with Simply Share Foundation and the Naval Reserve Center of Eastern Visayas to respond to this calamity and bring back hope and light to my fellow Sugboanons. Your simple act of kindness means a lot."
In an Instagram story, Bea updated the public and thanked everyone who had offered a helping hand.
"As of 5 pm today, we received Php 49,327.24 through GCash. Bank updates will soon be announced once internet connection is stable in Cebu," she wrote.
On Thursday afternoon, southern and central portions of Cebu, such as Cebu City, Lapu-Lapu City, and Mandaue City, were among those placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3.
Other celebrities such as Andi Eigenmann and her fiancé Philmar Alipayo also asked for help and prayers from the public as their home, Siargao, was placed under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 4. — VBL, GMA News
