GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed school supplies to students in several provinces in the Philippines.

According to “24 Oras” on Friday, farmer Warren Garde manually waters his watermelon crops every day as he cannot yet afford to buy a machine for irrigation due to the high cost.

Warren said that he would rather use his earnings for now to purchase school supplies and other educational needs of his children.

“Sikap sa pagtatanim para matustusan ko po ang pag-aaral ng aking mga anak,” he said.

Lorena Gilbuena is also struggling to buy school supplies for her children as her husband’s fish catch has significantly declined.

Meanwhile, Margeline Alga from Tanhay, Negros Oriental, has doubled her efforts in selling vegetables to support her children’s education, especially now that the prices of basic goods continue to rise.

“Makapagtapos talaga sila ng pag-aaral kahit nahihirapan kami sa buhay. Nais kong makatapos sila ng kanilang pag-aaral dahil iyon lamang ang pinakamalaking maitutulong ko para sa kanila,” she said.

To help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed 60,000 complete school supply kits to those in need. Per the report, the foundation began donating school supplies to children in kindergarten and Grade 1 in public schools ahead of the start of the new school year.

Among the beneficiaries are students from communities affected by Super Typhoon Uwan in the provinces of Albay, Camarines Norte, and Catanduanes, as well as families affected by the high cost of fuel in Negros Oriental and those hit by strong earthquakes in Cebu and Davao Oriental.

“Ito po ay malaking tulong sa aming mga mag-aaral upang sila ay ma-encourage na mag-aral,” said Myla Deang, an Education Program Specialist of the Department of Education - Camarines Norte.

For those who wish to support GMA Kapuso Foundation's projects, donations may be made via Metrobank, Land Bank, BDO, Bank of Commerce, UnionBank, PNB, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Lazada, Shopee, and Palawan Pay. Visit the GMA Kapuso Foundation website for more information.
