Baus Rufo, Joy Barcoma reflect on Pride, support for LGBT+ community
"The People Have Spoken" celebri-peeps Joy Barcoma and Baus Rufo have something to say about Pride.
In a interview with GMA News Online, the beauty queen and content creator talked about the meaning of the celebrations for them as a proud ally and proud queer, respectively.
For Baus, Pride is all about "owning the uniqueness that the Lord gave you and being very confident in it."
"[Pride] is stepping into your full power knowing that the divine or the superior being chose you to have those specific skills and talents and experiences and stories," he said.
The LGBT+ social media star said it is "a great privilege" to be able to have the platform to represent the rainbow community.
"Queerness comes, I think, in many forms. So I don't try to live my life and start my day with like, 'how am I gonna be the best representation of my community today?' I think it's just, how can I best represent myself today?" the "Dogshow Divas" host said.
"Because everything I do is queer, everything I say is queer because I am a queer person," he added. "So I feel like the more I am myself, you could argue the better I can represent this amazing community that I am a part of."
Meanwhile, Joy said that Pride is freedom or "having the rights to enjoy the life that you deserve, having the same and equal rights as the other genders that we have in society."
She is also very happy "na pinagdidiwang natin ang buwan ng mga bakla."
"Isa n'yo po akong kaalyado pagdating po sa pakikibaka at paglaban para po sa pagpasa ng SOGIE Bill, para po ng pantay na karapatan at oportunidad ang mga miyembro ng LGBTQIA+ community," the Miss Philippines Earth 2025 said.
