R'Bonney Gabriel exits 'Project Runway' Season 22

R'Bonney Gabriel’s journey on "Project Runway" Season 22 has come to an end.

On Instagram, the Miss Universe 2022 titleholder reflected on her elimination from the fashion design competition, saying she is choosing to see the experience as a chance to grow.

“Reframe setbacks as opportunities,” she wrote. “Entering [Project Runway] was a devastating and humbling experience and definitely did not go as well as I was hoping for. But as dissapointed as I am, I’m only looking forward to investing more into my craft and building my brand.”

In her elimination interview on the show, R'Bonney admitted she was disappointed with the outcome but said it would not define her career as a designer.

“I feel so disappointed in myself. I'm extremely embarrassed. I wish the outcome was different. I feel wholeheartedly that I didn't bring the right garment,” she said.

“This cannot define me as a designer. That doesn't mean that I'm not talented. I just want my design work to now be my ultimate shining star. It wasn't enough, basically what they said,” she added.

R’Bonney also posted a video of the denim look that led to her elimination from the competition.

“The design that sent me home on [Project Runway],” she wrote with a blue heart emoji.

The look featured a structured cropped denim jacket with a deep V-neckline, oversized collar, sharp shoulders, and an off-center wrap belt, paired with a matching high-waisted paneled mini skirt or shorts.

She made the outfit for a workshop where she taught sewing classes to San Francisco youth.

R’Bonney announced in May that she made it to the cast of “Project Runway” Season 22.

She often makes fashion pieces from sustainable materials and traditional fabrics like the inaul from Sultan Kudarat.

R’Bonney made history in 2022 as the first Filipino-American to win Miss Universe. She has a Filipino father and American mother, and represented Texas in the Miss USA pageant.
