Kara David bags 3 trophies in inaugural FAMAS Broadcast Awards

Kara David bagged three trophies at the first-ever FAMAS Broadcast Awards held at the Manila Hotel on Monday.

The Kapuso broadcast journalist first won Best Documentary for "Embalsamador De Motor" on "I-Witness."

In her acceptance speech, David thanked the award-giving body and the network for the opportunity to make documentaries.

"Ito pong parangal na ito ay inaalay po namin sa lahat po ng magigiting na riders ng T'boli, South Cotabato, na araw-araw pumupunta sa mga liblib na lugar para lang makapaghatid ng serbisyo sa kanilang mga katribo," she said.

"'Yung mga riders po natin sa T'boli, South Cotabato, wala po silang kapangyarihan, wala po silang karangyaan, pero maglilingkod sila hanggang kamatayan, sana po ganyan lahat ng lider natin sa lipunan," she added.

She then won Best Public Affairs Talk Show for "I-Listen." She was surprised to have received the award, as the program was only launched last year.

David said she wanted to highlight the extraordinary lives of ordinary people and the ordinary lives of public figures through the show.

"Kaya 'I-Listen' po ang pangalan ng aming programa kasi naniniwala ako na lahat ng problema, whether malaki man ito or maliit, ay nagsisimula sa pakikinig, sa pagbubukas ng ating isip, at pagbubukas ng ating puso sa iba," she said. "So makinig po tayo sa kuwento ng ating mga kababayan at ilahad po natin ang kanilang kuwento nang may katotohanan."

David also won Best Host for Public Service for "I-Listen," an award she shared with content creator Ivana Alawi.

Meanwhile, "Born to Be Wild" was named Best Educational Show and "Biyahe ni Drew" was hailed as the Best Lifestyle Show. —MGP, GMA News
