A shelter for abandoned and abused children in Marikina City is asking for donations after their supplies ran out amid the enhanced community quarantine.

In a Facebook post, Meritxell Children's World Foundation shared a photo of their empty refrigerator and freezer.

"Life as we know it has indeed changed," the post read. "In all the 12 years since we were established, it has never been this empty."

The non-profit, which houses over 25 individuals, rely solely on donations in cash and in kind to feed, clothe, and educate their children.

However, since the quarantine was imposed to stop the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), "the donations have reduced significantly."

The shelter also added that aside from getting funds for the children, it was an additional challenge to go out and purchase food for all of the individuals they house.

"Any help would truly be appreciated. Maraming salamat po, mula sa mga Batang Meritxell," they said.
