Matet de Leon opens up on 'misunderstanding' with brother Ian

Matet de Leon said she and her fellow adopted siblings Lotlot, Kenneth, and Kiko do not have a feud with Ian, the only biological child of their mother, the late Nora Aunor.

During her guesting on Thursday's episode of "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda," Matet spoke about their relationship as siblings after they marked the Superstar's death anniversary last month.

"Hindi ko po masabing away. But misunderstanding po," she said.

Fans noticed that Matet, Lotlot, and Kenneth did not attend the memorial event for the Superstar held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, which was led by Ian. Matet said Kiko was present, but he arrived late to the gathering also attended by Noranians.

Meanwhile, Matet, Lotlot, and Kenneth held a separate death anniversary tribute for their mom.

According to Matet, Ian invited them to the memorial event but they chose not to attend because of personal reasons.

"Lumabas po na may invitation for the mass sa Facebook and ang invitation is for everybody. Everyone. But before, siguro a week or two, before April 16, nagparating po ng message si Ian na baka puwedeng gusto n'yo, parang gano'n," she recalled.

"Ang reason po namin is hindi po kami handang humarap sa mga tao. Kami pong tatlo, si Ate, ako at saka si Kenneth, we chose to... parang doon na lang sa kung saan medyo tahimik po, Tito Boy. Because of what happened last year, it was very, very painful for us. And sa mga nawalan, naiintindihan ninyo na bumabalik po lahat what happened nung araw na 'yan," she said.

"We were not ready at all to face the fans. We were not ready. Hindi po kami handa na humarap sa mga tao," she added.

Tito Boy also asked Matet whether they had any knowledge of and involvement in the Nora Aunor Foundation and Nora Aunor Enterprise, which Ian founded.

"Baka po 'yung dalawang boys [Kenneth and Kiko]. Baka po alam nila. But kami ni Ate [Lotlot], definitely wala po," she said.

Matet also addressed Ian's statement on being the sole heir to Nora's estate.

"Totoo naman po eh. Totoo naman. Wala naman pong pagdududa doon. Kahit nga hindi niya nasabihin eh. Understandable. Alam na po ng lahat 'yan," she said.

In the same interview, Matet said she and her fellow adopted siblings are not after any inheritance, clarifying that her social media post mentioning "mana" is directed to bashers.

Nora died on April 16, 2025 at the age of 71. According to Ian, her cause of death was Acute Respiratory Failure.

She was named a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts in 2022. She was known for her iconic roles in the films "Himala," "Bona," and "Minsa'y Isang Gamu-gamo."
