El Poco Cantina owner finally attends Michelin Guide ceremony after email mishap last year

El Poco Cantina owner Richards “Tots” Ramirez finally got to attend the Michelin Guide ceremony after missing the event due to an email mishap last year.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, El Poco Cantina shared a photo of Ramirez holding his Michelin Guide award, with text reading "email received."

“This is not a scam!! Finally, he was able to attend,” the restaurant wrote in its caption, thanking everyone for their continued support.

In another Instagram post, Ramirez shared a video of himself at the ceremony as he thanked the team behind El Poco.

“Thank you to everyone who support our passion. El Poco Cantina is not El Poco without my team and you guys,” he wrote.

Ramirez missed the ceremony last year after blocking the Michelin Guide's email address, preventing him from receiving the invitation.

"We got Michelin Selected without me even knowing because I blocked the email. I thought the email was a phishing scam,” Ramirez wrote in a social media post.

It's the Taft location of El Poco Cantina that was included in the Michelin selection. Birria tacos are its specialties but it also serves burritos, nachos, quesadillas and other Mexican street fare.

On the website, Michelin recommends El Poco Cantina's "crispy and soft flour tortilla tacos with beef barbacoa or pork carnitas" and said they are "perfectly paired with a horchata featuring sweet vanilla and cinnamon notes."

The business has been around for seven years now and a second location at the U-Belt in Recto opened in 2024.
