The Chocolate Kiss cafe in UP Diliman is closing after 23 years

The Chocolate Kiss cafe inside UP Diliman is permanently closing doors after 23 years.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Monday, the cafe fondly called "ChoKiss" by UP students said they will sell their final cakes on June 22.

It became the latest business to close down as the economy remains unable to fully re-open amid the coronavirus pandemic.

"The past year of navigating through the lockdowns was quite exciting, but sadly, not sustainable, which has prompted us to wind things down," ChoKiss said.

The cafe also looked back to its humble beginnings in a home kitchen and reflected on how far it has come.

"Baking and selling [cakes] started out as a hobby for its founders, which became a modest side-business come Christmas time. No one planned for this 'side-line' to build its own Commissary," it said.

Last year, the cafe made the decision to close its restaurant at The Bahay ng Alumni in UP but still remained open for orders of cakes and pastries in its commissary in Fairview, Quezon City.

ChoKiss thanked its customers for allowing them to be part of their celebrations and their lives.

"We’ve built so many good memories over the years, and we only want to leave you with happy thoughts," it said.

The cafe is still accepting orders with a two-day lead notice. They will sell customer favorites and possibly some "limited edition and seasonal goodies" to finish up their remaining ingredients.
