Woman with lump in chest gets medical attention with GMA Kapuso Foundation’s help
A woman in Pangasinan who discovered a lump in her chest months ago had finally been checked by a medical professional with the help of GMA Kapuso Foundation.
According to a “24 Oras” report on Thursday, it has been eight months since 48-year-old Teofanes Kasil felt a lump through breast self-examination.
However, the mom of six said didn’t get the chance to have it checked even as she started feeling pain in the area because of lack of income.
“Gusto kong magpa-checkup pero nasasayangan ako. Gusto ko ay ’yung pangangailangan muna namin bago yung sa’kin,” said Teofanes, who earned a living by selling balut and ihaw-ihaw.
[I want to have it checked but I think it’s just a waste of money. I’ll just use it for our family’s needs instead of my own.]
Her husband Buddy Dalope was heartbroken by the situation. However, even if he wanted her to feel better, his income of PHP300 a day as a security guard also wasn’t enough.
“Kahit mamatay na ako, ’wag lang [siya] mamatay kasi mahal na mahal ko yung asawa ko,” Buddy said.
[I don’t care if I die, as long as she doesn’t, because I love my wife so much.]
With the help of GMA Kapuso Foundation, Teofanes was examined by Dr. Rosa Lure Cachin-Imperio of Region 1 Medical Center. She also underwent a biopsy exam to determine if the lump was cancerous.
“Hindi pa naman malaki ’yung bukol, movable naman upon examination though my concern is meron din kasi siyang kulani sa kili-kili. Hindi pa rin natin masasabi kung cancer siya,” said the doctor.
[The lump isn’t big, upon examination it looks movable, though my concern is she also has swollen lymph nodes on her underarm. We still can’t say if it’s cancer.]
While the results of her biopsy aren’t out yet, Teofanes is asking help for her medical expenses in case a bigger amount will be needed.
“Kung ano man ’yung resulta nitong examination, sana po may tumulong kasi gusto ko pa makita ’yung mga anak kong maliliit,” she said.
[Whatever the result is, I hope someone helps me because I still want to see my small children.]
