A total of three hundred moms in Rosario, Cavite, including tinapa vendors and bagoong makers, received free medical services on Mother's Day from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to "24 Oras" Monday, 100 mothers received free pap smears, breast examinations, and haircuts, while 200 more mothers received free bone scans.

Among the beneficiaries of the GMA Kapuso Foundation was 59-year-old Susan Bartulo, who has been making and selling tinapa or smoked fish for four decades.

Susan earns around P500 to P1,000 daily as a tinapa vendor, an amount that covers their needs, but not enough to allow her to get checked by a medical specialist.

Through her work, she was able to send two of her children to college, one of whom is now a nurse.

"Natulong ako kasi 'yun ang papel ko bilang ina. Maging success lang sila masaya na ako," she said.

Dr. Arlene Garduque, assistant medical director at Wellpoint Medical Clinic and Diagnostic Center, has recommended that women aged 21 years or younger start getting pap smears.

"At 21 years old ay mag-start na 'yung ating pag-pa-pap smear at kung pwede rin siya nang mas maaga kung maaga na-expose sa contact," said Garduque.

"Ang self-breast examination, para maagang ma-detect kung meron nang bukol na nakakapa so kapag meron na niyan pwede na talaga pumunta sa doctor," she added.

Makeup artist Bambbi Fuentes also gave beauty tips and makeovers to the mothers at the event.

Food packs, vitamins, hygiene kits, and food were likewise given to the mothers, while appliances were raffled off.
