PWDs in Nueva Ecija, Albay receive wheelchairs, crutches, canes from GMA Kapuso Foundation

The GMA Kapuso Foundation donated wheelchairs, crutches, and canes to persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija and Oas, Albay, in observance of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week this July.

According to a report on "24 Oras" Friday, among the beneficiaries are Grace Batalla, a teacher who had a stroke, and Jasper Gallardo, whose lower body has been paralyzed.

Grace has struggled to walk ever since she suffered a stroke, which weakened her. Nevertheless, she takes on T-shirt printing to help support her family, earning P7 per dozen of shirts printed.

"I need to fight. I have children who depend on me and they are still studying," said Batalla in Filipino.

Gallardo, on the other hand, became paralyzed when he fell from a mango tree after being electrocuted.

"I cannot walk anymore. Half of my body has become paralyzed. I could not accept it at first, I kept crying and crying. My old wheelchair was just lent to me by my grandmother," he said in Filipino.

In observance of National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week, the GMA Kapuso Foundation donated wheelchairs, crutches, and canes to 26 PWDs in Santa Rosa, Nueva Ecija. It also distributed food packs, foam, and blankets to the beneficiaries.

Twenty PWDs in Oas, Albay, also received wheelchairs, food packs, and blankets from GMA Kapuso Foundation.

"This has been a huge help to me. Thank you so much, GMA Kapuso Foundation," said Batalla.
