Residents affected by quake, flooding in Sarangani, South Cotabato receive aid from GMA Kapuso Foundation

Residents in Sarangani and South Cotabato who have been struggling to recover from consecutive calamities have received assistance through the GMA Kapuso Foundation's Operation Bayanihan project.

According to "24 Oras" on Friday, among the beneficiaries was Melodina Gutierrez, a resident who is still recovering from the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck Sarangani in June.

Before her family could rebuild their home, heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) and intensified by Tropical Storm Kiyapo caused flooding that damaged their belongings.

With a weekly income of only around P200 from making waling tingting, repairing their damaged house and replacing household items have remained out of reach for Melodina.

As part of the Operation Bayanihan project, the GMA Kapuso Foundation distributed aid to families affected by the earthquake in Alabel, Sarangani, and Polomolok, South Cotabato.

Beneficiaries received new bedding, housewares, rechargeable fans, and clothing donated by Nitori Philippines.

"May blanket ako, may pillow din ako, may electric fan ako na matagal ko nang pinangarap. Marami pong salamat sa GMA Kapuso Foundation [at] Nitori Philippines," she said.

Meanwhile, the GMA Kapuso Foundation's relief operations in the municipalities of Malapatan and Glan, Sarangani, were postponed after a portion of the Sapu Masla Bridge in Malapatan was damaged due to the inclement weather.

Relief operations in Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental, have also been delayed due to the severe weather conditions.

Per the report, the GMA Kapuso Foundation will resume its relief operations once weather conditions improve.
