New 'Avatar: The Last Airbender' sequel in the works at Paramount+
A new “Avatar: The Last Airbender” animated sequel series is in the works!
According to Deadline, Paramount+ has ordered “Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos,” which will follow the story of Kuruk, the Water Tribe Avatar who came three generations before Aang.
The upcoming series was announced during the New York Comic Con panel for “Avatar: Seven Havens,” another animated series in the franchise, which premiered on Paramount+ on Friday.
“A rebellious teenage Avatar bucks thousands of years of tradition by choosing to learn the four elements through globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic spirits – all while helping the world in his own unique ways,” the series logline said as per Deadline.
The series will be produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with “Avatar” co-creator Bryan Konietzko, who developed the franchise alongside Michael Dante DiMartino, serving as showrunner.
In 2025, an “Avatar: The Last Airbender” sequel series titled "Avatar: Seven Havens" was released. It follows the next Avatar after Korra — a young Earthbender "hunted by both human and spirit enemies" in an era where her title marks her as humanity’s destroyer, not its savior.
"Avatar: The Last Airbender" aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008. It follows Aang as he trains to master all four elements, and his journey in ending the Hundred Year War.
In 2024, Netflix released a live action adaptation of the series. —Jade Veronique Yap/JCB, GMA News
