Miss Philippines Earth holds pre-pageant activities online amid COVID-19 threat

While many beauty pageants opted to postpone their events this year, one still pushed through amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

According to Lhar Santiago's report for "24 Oras," Miss Philippines Earth has been holding its pre-pageant activities online.

The long gown competition, fitness, form and poise competition, beach wear competition, and sports wear competition are streamed on the pageant's Facebook page.

"Mahirap gawin but syempre pag lahat naman nagcooperate, especially 'yung mga girls, so napapadali ang buhay namin," said Miss Philippines Earth head Lorraine Schuck.

Some candidates were apprehensive with the virtual pageant at first, but they eventually warmed up to the idea.

"If you want something, if you dream of something, you would do whatever it is in your power to make it come true," said Roxanne Allison Baeyens.

According to pageant analyst Adam Genato, candidates should take the opportunity of the new format as a blessing in disguise.

"Kahit limited ang galaw natin, limited ang resources natin, gagawa siya ng paraan to make my pageant, brand, more relevant," he said. "She really has to make herself stand out in a creative way."

Coronation night will be on July 5 and will air on GMA-7. —MGP, GMA News
