'Avatar: The Last Airbender' animated film to hit theaters in October 2025

The first of three upcoming animated "Avatar: The Last Airbender" films is arriving on October 10, 2025!

"Since you can’t freeze yourself in a ball of ice, you’ll just have to wait?," the franchise said in its Facebook announcement.

Original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko have returned to produce the new animated movies, which will focus on Aang and friends — except they'll be all grown up.

The film series project is not to be confused with the upcoming Netflix live-action adaptation. Initially, DiMartino and Konietzko had been named executive producers for that, but they quit because "it will not be what [we] had envisioned or intended to make."

"Avatar: The Last Airbender," which aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008, follows Aang and his friends as they hone their skills and attempt to end the Hundred Year War in order to bring back peace among the four nations.
