Lea Salonga is a memory-eating Manananggal in 'Forgotten Island' trailer
The official trailer for “Forgotten Island” has arrived, introducing Lea Salonga as the dreaded Manananggal.
In the three-minute video, Raissa (Liza Soberano) and Jo (H.E.R.) are faced with the dilemma of being apart for college as the former plans to move to the United States to attend the California Institute of Technology.
To make the most of their last night together, the besties accidentally travel to the island of Nakali, a mysterious place populated by Filipino mythical creatures, where they befriend a weredog named Raww (Dave Franco).
At Nakali, the Manananggal is described as the “most feared monster,” who feeds on people’s memories until there is nothing left to remember.
The earlier teaser showcased elements of Filipino culture that resonate with childhood friendships, from charm-filled friendship bracelets with personal meaning and rides on the iconic jeepney to neighborhoods reminiscent of Filipino homes and the classic classroom setup in Philippine schools.
Aside from Liza, H.E.R., Dave, and Lea, the film also stars Dolly de Leon, Manny Jacinto, Jenny Slate, Jo Koy, and Ronny Chieng.
Meanwhile, SB19, BINI, and Sophia Laforteza of Katseye are part of the official soundtrack.
BINI contributes the original song “A Parallel World,” while Katseye’s Sophia Laforteza performs a reimagined version of INXS’ classic “Never Tear Us Apart.”
The soundtrack also features SB19’s cover of the late Francis Magalona’s “Mga Kababayan” and Ruby Ibarra’s “Salbahae Ako” featuring Carl Angelo.
“Forgotten Island” is set for theatrical release on September 23. —Hermes Joy Tunac/JCB, GMA News
