Erap congratulates new Manila Mayor Isko Moreno

Former President and outgoing Manila Mayor Joseph "Erap" Estrada on Tuesday congratulated his political opponent Francisco "Isko Moreno" Domagoso who won the mayoral seat in the May 13 elections.

According to a report in GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho, Estrada said he will "prepare the smooth turnover of the city government."

"I congratulate the new mayor and I wish him all the best for the good of the people of Manila," he said in a statement.

Domagoso was declared the next Mayor of Manila on Tuesday, after he bested old-timers incumbent Mayor Joseph Estrada and former Mayor Alfredo Lim.

The new mayor-elect said he envisions to lead a unified people.

"Sabi ko sa mga kasama natin, mga volunteers natin, magpakababang loob kayo, magpatawad kayo sa mga taong nanakit ng damdamin ninyo dahil sa mga salita. I don't want a divided city. I want to govern with a unified people of [the] City of Manila," Moreno said.

Estrada expressed his gratitude to his relentless supporters.

"I wish to thank all those who stood by me for the last five decades of my political life," he said. —Dona Magsino/LDF, GMA News
