Metro Manila residents advised to evacuate ahead of Tisoy's heavy rains

Residents of some areas in Metro Manila have been advised to evacuate before Typhoon Tisoy's heavy downpour.

In Manila on Tuesday around 7 a.m., gusty winds could be felt in Baseco, according to a report by Darlene Cay on GMA News' Unang Balita.

Although no rain poured overnight, heavy rains were expected on Tuesday.

PAGASA said Metro Manila is under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2. Between morning and late afternoon on Tuesday, the Bicol region, Romblon, Marinduque, Mindoro provinces, CALABARZON, Metro Manila, Bataan, Pampanga and Bulacan will experience frequent to continuous heavy to intense rains.

Manila

Mayor Isko Moreno, via Facebook Live, ordered the preemptive evacuation of residents in the following barangays:

  • Baseco Compound or Brgy. 649
  • Brgy. 275
  • Brgy. 20, particularly Isla Puting Bato
  • Brgy. 105
  • Happyland in Tondo
  • Barangay 101

The above-mentioned areas are coastal villages at risk for storm surge and strong winds from the typhoon.

In Baseco, the evacuation center has been made ready but as of the Unang Balita report, only one family sought shelter there.

Barangay officials went around residential areas before dawn asking residents in low-lying areas prone to flooding to evacuate.

Most of the houses in the said areas are made of light materials, making these more vulnerable to the typhoon's strong winds.

Quezon City

Meanwhile, in Quezon City, residents of Barangay Bagong Silangan and Roxas District were advised to be ready for evacuation, according to a report by James Agustin on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Evacuation centers in these areas were already set up with modular tents.

Each modular tent can accommodate two families or eight individuals.

A child-friendly space and modular tent for breastfeeding were also readied at the Barangay Bagong Silangan evacuation center.

Only one family living beside the creek, however, sought shelter at the Barangay Bagong Silangan as of the Unang Balita report.

Authorities are also monitoring other flood-prone areas in the city such as Tagumpay Extension, New Green Land and Tumana.

Personnel from the city's Social Services Development Department were already at the evacuation centers. Food items for evacuees were also already at the sites. —KG, GMA News
