Pasig City lifts liquor ban but public drinking, mass gathering still prohibited

The Pasig City government on Tuesday lifted the liquor ban in the city but reminded residents that drinking in public places and having social gatherings are still prohibited amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We are lifting because businesses and workers are also affected by the ban," Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said on Twitter.

"NGUNIT paalala na bawal pa rin po ang social gatherings. Kung inom na inom na po kayo, sa loob na lang muna ng bahay at wag imbitahin ang buong barangay."

In a separate social media post, the Pasig City government said violators will still face penalties.

The Pasig City's announcement comes as the Metro Manila Council conducts its meeting to discuss their recommendation on whether to extend the modified enhanced community quarantine in the National Capital Region or downgrade it.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said Tuesday there is a huge possibility that the National Capital Region will be placed under general community quarantine after May 31.

Quezon City and Marikina City have also lifted their liquor ban, while Pasay City said it is implementing a "modified" liquor ban. --Jamil Santos/KBK, GMA News
