MMDA postpones closure of U-turn slot near Gen. Malvar, Bagong Barrio

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Thursday postponed the closure of the U-turn slot near General Malvar and Bagong Barrio in Caloocan City until next year.

In a Facebook post, the MMDA said the closure will be moved to Monday, January 4, 2021 as part of the agency’s efforts to speed up travel along the EDSA Busway.

“Manatiling nakatutok para sa karagdagang updates tungkol sa efforts ng MMDA para mapabilis ang biyahe sa EDSA Busway,” the MMDA said.

The MMDA previously said the closure of 13 U-turn slots in EDSA will be completed by December.

The MMDA has closed the following U-turn slots:

  •     Balintawak Market U-turn slot in front of BPI bank
  •     Kaingin Road U-turn slot in front of Nissan
  •     Congressional LRT Station U-turn slot in front of PANORAMA
  •     Corregidor intersection / Bansalangin U-turn slots
  •     U-turn slots in front of Quezon City Academy
  •     North Avenue U-turn slots before MRT North Avenue Station
  •     Oliveros Drive U-turn slot

Several drivers have blamed the closed u-turn slots for the heavy traffic in northbound EDSA while public utility jeepney drivers have complained that it caused additional gasoline expenses and travel time.

Meanwhile, the MMDA previously said it does not expect the usual heavy traffic along EDSA to return to its pre-pandemic level once all the u-turn slots are closed.—AOL, GMA News
