Makati, Navotas secure AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines for residents

Just like other localities across the metro, the local governments of Makati and Navotas already secured some doses of COVID-19 vaccines for their constituents.

Makati City Mayor Abby Binay on Monday announced that a total of one million doses of AstraZeneca vaccines have been secured for the city's residents as well as non-resident property and business owners in the city.

Binay said the city government is also finalizing agreements with other vaccine manufacturers. She added that an information campaign would be launched to address the concerns of residents about the inoculation.

"Makati will launch an information campaign, together with medical experts on infectious diseases and vaccination, to ensure that all doubts, concerns and questions on the Covid-19 vaccine will be answered. Maniwala sa siyensya; hindi sa haka-haka," Binay said.

Meanwhile, Navotas City Mayor Toby Tiangco said at least 50,000 residents would initially be vaccinated after the local government inked a pact with AstraZeneca for the purchase of 100,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine.

"Dahil two doses po ang kailangan ng bawat tao, 50,000 Navoteño po ang unang mabibigyan natin ng bakuna na inaasahan nating dadating sa second half ng 2021," Tiangco said.

"Manatili po tayong maingat at sundin natin ang mga safety protocols habang hinihintay natin ang bakunang ito," he added.

Aside from the two cities, San Juan, Mandaluyong, Manila, Caloocan and Valenzuela also signed deals with AstraZeneca for their respective vaccination programs. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KG, GMA News
