Eleazar apologizes to family of woman seen on video shot dead by cop in QC

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday apologized to the family of the victim who was seen on video shot dead by a police officer in Quezon City on Monday.

In a press conference, Eleazar also extended the PNP’s condolences to the family.

“Kami po ay nakikiramay sa pamilya ng victim at pinararating ang taos-pusong paghingi ng tawad sa lahat, pati na rin sa ating kababayan, sa ginawang karumal-dumal na ginawa ng pulis na ito,” he said.

(We are conveying our condolences to the family of the victim as well as our apology to all, including the public, for the violent actions of this police officer.)

Eleazar vowed that the PNP will continue the internal cleansing of the PNP.

On Monday night, 52-year-old Lilibeth Valdez was shown on video shot dead by the suspect identified as Police Master Sergeant Hensie Zinampan at a store in Barangay Greater Fairview.

The victim's daughter said the suspect approached her mother, pulled her hair, and shot her in the neck.

Police said according to the victim's daughter, the victim's son and Zinampan engaged in a fistfight on May 1. After the incident, the same cop issued a threat.

Zinampan is currently in the custody of the police.

He was assigned at the Philippine National Police – Police Security and Protection Group and was turned over to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) in Camp Karingal.

Initially, Zinampan denied that he killed the victim even with the presence of the video showing the shooting incident.

A murder case is being prepared to be filed against Zinampan, Eleazar said. —KG, GMA News
