Eleazar orders strict enforcement of curfew in NCR under ECQ

Philippine National Police chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar on Tuesday directed concerned personnel to strictly enforce curfew in Metro Manila as it shifts to enhanced community quarantine on August 6.

In a statement, Eleazar said he tasked the National Capital Region Police Office to ensure the strict implementation of the longer curfew from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

“The strict border control and the longer curfew hours are but some of the necessary interventions to prevent the spread of the Delta variant of COVID-19,” he said.

Eleazar ordered police personnel to coordinate with barangay officials in enforcing the curfew.

He said the curfew implementation would help prevent mass gatherings in the communities and further spread of COVID-19.

At least eight local government units in Metro Manila will impose a liquor ban during the two-week enhanced community quarantine from August 6 to 20.

Liquor ban will be implemented in Valenzuela, Mandaluyong, Paranaque, Pasay, Navotas, Pateros, Quezon City, and San Juan.

Police personnel will also assist in enforcing the liquor ban that will be implemented by these local government units in Metro Manila.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año said the ECQ in Metro Manila will be stricter compared to its previous implementation, calling it a hard lockdown.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
