Albayalde will enjoy full retirement benefits —PNP spokesperson Banac

Police General Oscar Albayalde will still enjoy his full retirement benefits despite relinquishing his post as chief of the Philippine National Police on Monday, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said.

“Lahat ng nga benepisyo na nauukol para sa kaniya ay matatanggap pa rin naman niya dahil ang kaniyang official retirement ay sa November 8 pa naman,” Banac told reporters.

Earlier, Albayalde stepped down from his post as PNP chief following the ninja cops controversy in which his name was dragged along with 13 Pampanga policemen allegedly involved in drug recycling.

Aside from the Senate, the Department of the Interior and Local Government is also investigating the controversy.

Albayalde said his move would pave the way for “the appointment of his replacement should the President so desire.”

It was earlier disclosed by Senator Christopher “Bong” Go that the turnover ceremony at the PNP would be on October 29.

Asked if Albayalde would still attend the change of command ceremony, Banac said he was unsure of it.

“Hindi pa tayo nakakasiguro sa ngayon kasi non-duty status na siya. Ang ibig sabihin ay hindi na siya gaganap ng mga opisyal na tungkulin. Maaaring assumption of office na lang ang mangyayari,” Banac said.

Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa was appointed as the officer-in-charge of the PNP following the stepping down of Albayalde from his post.

Gamboa vowed to continue the PNP's campaign against criminality, illegal drugs and corruption. —KG, GMA News
