PhilHealth’s high-ranking officials voluntarily submit to lifestyle check

High-ranking officials of the Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) have submitted themselves voluntarily to lifestyle checks to belie allegations of corruption.

This, after President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the creation of an inter-agency task force to probe the allegations of anomalies in the state-owned health insurer.

Sought for comment, PhilHealth spokesperson Gigi Domingo said the agency is “ready for any investigation.”

“In fact, early today the Execom (Executive Committee) members agreed voluntarily to submit themselves to lifestyle checks to be conducted by any government agency,” Domingo said.

Duterte’s decision came in the wake of allegations that PhilHealth officials were able to steal some P15 billion from the state health insurer through several fraudulent schemes.

PhilHealth denied its officials pocketed the funds, insisting that what former anti-fraud legal officer Thorrsson Montes Keith said during a Senate hearing had no basis.

PhilHealth officials also vowed to file a libel complaint against Keith over the latter’s allegations.—AOL, GMA News
