DILG Sec. Año tests positive anew for COVID-19

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Sunday said he has again tested positive for COVID-19.

Año said he began having flu-like symptoms such as sore throat and body pains on Thursday, August 13.

On the following day, he had a swab test and began self-quarantine.

The test result came back positive on Saturday night.

"Last night, August 15, I received my test result informing me that I am once again positive for COVID-19. In the meantime, I am being closely monitored by my doctors while I am in isolation," he said in a statement.

Año asked those with whom he had close contact recently to undergo self-quarantine and check if they have symptoms.

"I make this announcement to call the attention of all persons I had close contact with to go on self-quarantine, observe any symptoms in accordance with DOH guidelines, and take appropriate action," he said.

The Deparment of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) secretary then appealed to the public to wear a face mask, wash hands and practice social distancing.

"I also make this announcement to emphasize the severity of the virus, and to encourage everyone to wear a mask, wash their hands frequently, and practice social distancing. By adhering to these guidelines, we can all help keep our loved ones and our community safe. Keep safe everyone and God bless us all," he added.

In March, Año tested positive for COVID-19.

The Philippines on Saturday reported 4,351 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the nationwide total to 157,918, according to the Department of Health.

Total recoveries also rose to 72,209 after 885 more patients have recovered from the illness, while the death toll in the country increased to 2,600 with 159 new fatalities. —KG, GMA News
