IATF to consult LGUs on plan to ban home quarantine of COVID-19 cases -Palace

The Inter-Agency Task for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) has yet to approve the proposal to ban the home quarantine of people infected with COVID-19, Malacañang said Friday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said in a text message that the plan was put on hold “pending consultations with the local government units.”

On Tuesday, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said the government is eyeing to ban home quarantine to prevent further transmission of the virus. The Department of Health has backed the proposal.

The Philippines has so far reported 248,947 COVID-19 cases, including 186,058 recoveries and 4,066 deaths.

There are 58,823 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine, 88.3% of which are mild, 8.8% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are severe, and 1.7% are in critical condition.

The government is currently implementing the Oplan Kalinga, in which local health officials go house-to-house, searching for mild and asymptomatic cases who will later be transferred to isolation facilities.—AOL, GMA News
