DepEd to prioritize private school teachers in hiring learning support aides

The Department of Education on Tuesday said it will be prioritizing private school teachers affected by school closures in its hiring of learning support aides (LSAs) for blended learning.

"In terms of priority, ipa-prioritize po natin ang private school teachers na naapektuhan sa hindi pagbubukas ng mga paaralan," Education Undersecretary Jess Mateo said in a Dobol B sa News TV interview.

Mateo said they are also accepting Licensure Exam for Teachers (LET) passers.

"Ngayon kung hindi naman po LET passers, magkakaroon lang ng problema 'yon pagdating nila sa application for regular position," Mateo however clarified.

In a press conference on Monday, Mateo said learning support aides will guide students and households, render assistance to teachers, as well as monitor and track the progress of learners.

The salary for para-teachers ranges from P6,000 to P11,000 per month, according to Mateo.

Applicants should be 21 to 59 years old and at least a senior high school graduate or with two years of study in college to be qualified, even without training and experience, and preferably residing with the community of teachers and students.

Meanwhile, Mateo also announced that for the first quarter, DepEd has already printed 667.7 million learning modules, of which 533 million have been distributed.

In terms of online, Mateo said 2.9 million online modules were uploaded at the DepEd Commons, as well as 32,648 e-books, video lessons and digital self-learning modules (SLMs).
