1,790 new COVID-19 cases bring Philippine tally to 537,310


The Philippines’ coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) tally rose to 537,310 on Sunday after the Department of Health announced 1,790 new infections as eight laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

The total number of recoveries also climbed to 499,798 after 11,388 more patients recovered from the respiratory disease.

The death toll increased to 11,179 with 70 new fatalities.

The DOH said one duplicate was removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 55 cases that were previously tagged as recovered were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH added.

There were 26,333 active cases undergoing treatment or quarantine.

On Friday, the DOH reported that the number of COVID-19 patients who had the UK variant of the coronavirus had risen to 25 following the detection of eight new cases.

Meanwhile, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said COVID-19 vaccines may arrive this week.

The Philippines aims to secure 146 to 148 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines. — DVM, GMA News
