Reso urging Duterte to run for VP in 2022, only a draft —Rep. Martinez

House Deputy Speaker and PDP-Laban party stalwart Eric Martinez on Friday clarified that the circulating resolution, urging President Rodrigo Duterte to run for vice president in 2022 polls, is not yet final.

"Please be not mistaken, this is a draft resolution," Martinez told reporters.

"We leave it at that muna na, the movements and resolution namin for the vice presidency and any other important decisions, collective eh gagawin ng partido 'yun," Martinez said.

The resolution states the call of some members of the ruling party for President Duterte to seek the vice presidency in the coming elections as they want his policies to continue.

According to Senator Manny Pacquiao, the party's acting president, the resolution is not authorized because the PDP-Laban's leadership wants politics to be set aside in this time of pandemic and instead prioritize helping those in need.

Martinez said Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, the ruling party's vice chairman, and executive vice chairman Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III were aware of the small group meeting wherein they discussed the said resolution.

"'Yung meeting na 'yun is a serious small group meeting, collectively we will have our formal assembly pero it’s a sentiment kasi, proposed draft resolution so informed naman si Sen. Koko about the movements there," he said.

He also said the party would have to "collectively" reconcile who will run for the highest positions in the 2022 elections, including the presidency.

Martinez added that the party has no senatorial lineup yet.—AOL, GMA News
