Palace: President welcomes advice for him not to run in 2022

President Rodrigo Duterte will consider the advice of people telling him not to run in 2022 pending his decision on the matter, the Palace said Tuesday.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the response after former Speaker and Taguig lawmaker Alan Cayetano advised the President not to run in 2022 so as not to tarnish his legacy.

Likewise, Senator Manny Pacquiao called on the President and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, to give others a chance in the 2022 polls.

“The President is yet to decide but he welcomes suggestions from everyone, lalo na galing sa malalapit sa kanya,” Roque said.

“The President will consider their advice, although for Mayor Sara, the decision has to be made by Mayor Sara,” Roque added.

Ruling party PDP-Laban earlier adopted a resolution picking President Duterte as the party’s Vice Presidential bet in the 2022 polls.

This move, Roque said, has prompted the President to think about it given that the nomination was made by the President’s party-mates.
