35,000 AFP personnel fully vaccinated vs. COVID-19

Around 35,000 military personnel have been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) said Wednesday.

The 180,000-strong AFP started the inoculation of its personnel on March 1.

“‘Yung mga doctor, nurses… tapos mga nagbabantay ng mga quarantine… sa checkpoints, ganun, mga sentinels. ‘Yan sila ‘yung mga frontliners, sila muna ‘yung inuna,” AFP Public Affairs Office chief Captain Jonathan Zata said.

(The doctors, nurses, those monitoring quarantine facilities, checkpoints, and sentinels were prioritized.)

Zata said there was little vaccine hesitancy among the AFP.

“Hindi naman mataas dahil nga, bottomline, kahit anong vaccine, kung anong vaccine ang gusto ng tropa. At the end of the day, vaccinated sila. ‘Yan din ‘yung guidance ng chief of staff,” he said.

According to Zata, AFP chief General Cirilito Sobejana has already received two doses of Sinovac vaccine.

As of June 15, the AFP has recorded a total of 12,302 confirmed cases. Of this, 553 are active cases while 11,442 have recovered and 30 have died.

Meanwhile, 238 suspect cases and 187 probable cases are also undergoing quarantine.

The Philippines has reported 1,332,832 confirmed COVID-19 cases, of which 1,253,541 have recovered and 23,121 have died.—Joahna Lei Casilao/AOL, GMA News
