13,573 new COVID-19 infections bring active cases to 125,378

The Philippines on Wednesday reported 13,573 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections as seven laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the relatively low number of cases is due to a lower laboratory output on Monday.

This brings the nationwide tally to 1,883,088, including 125,378 active cases.

Of the active cases, 95.9% are mild, 1.3% are asymptomatic, 1.2% are severe, and 0.6% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,725,218 after 15,820 more patients recovered from the illness.

A total of 228 new fatalities brought the death toll to 32,492.

A total of 176 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 152 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Based on reports on August 23, the Philippines was also able to test 46,193 individuals, of which 25.5% emerged positive for the illness.

Meanwhile, the OCTA Research group earlier said that the reproduction number of COVID-19 cases in the National Capital Region has decreased to 1.53 but is still in the "critical range.”—LDF, GMA News
