Robredo still discerning decision for Eleksyon 2022

With only days before the filing of certificate of candidacy, Vice President Leni Robredo is in "deep discernment" as to what she should do in connection with the Eleksyon 2022.

"Our days have been filled with deep discernment,  and I have been reaching out to expand our ranks. I know we are on clock and there is a deadline, but I am also aware of what I have to do," Robredo said during Liberal Party's National Executive Council (NECO) meeting Tuesday.

The filing of COC will be from October 1 to 8.

Robredo has yet to announce the position she will seek in the 2022 polls but she assured her partymates that she will make the necessary decision at the right time.

"The bottomline is I am aware that being a Liberal means, at the end of the day, always doing right by the country," added Robredo, LP chairperson.

Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV earlier said he wanted Robredo to seek the presidency but if the latter will fail to make a decision by 12 noon of October 8, he will run for president.

“Tuloy ang pagtulak natin kay VP Leni to run for president. Kung tumuloy siya, ipanalo natin siya. Pero kung 'di pa rin siya makapagdesisyon by 12 nn of October 8, tuloy na po ako ng pagka-presidente,” Trillanes said on Facebook on Sunday.

In her speech, Robredo said the allies of the Liberal Party go beyond party members.

"While not everyone will raise their hands and swear their oaths as members of our party, there are certain goals that align with ours. Given the lofty goals, it is our duty to look for alignment, reach out, and exhaust all possible means to achieve our goals," Robredo said.

"The overriding imperative is to reverse the trajectory of governance in our country, to end this brand of governance that is anti-democratic, anti-rights, corrupt and self-serving. I know you believe in this and regardless of political calculus, this is our red line, bound by the same values and love of country," she added.

During the NECO, LP nominated its candidates for the 2022 senatorial race, including Senators Francis Pangilinan and Leila de Lima, and former senator Bam Aquino.
