Leni running again for VP also discussed as part of unity talks — Kiko Pangilinan

Liberal Party president and Senator Francis Pangilinan on Wednesday said the possibility of Vice President Leni Robredo seeking reelection is also being discussed as part of the opposition’s attempt to organize the broadest coalition possible and rally behind one candidate for Eleksyon 2022.

“I cannot speak for her but that is something that has been discussed,” Pangilinan said at a virtual press conference Wednesday.

“Napagusapan kasi that’s part of unity talks. Hindi naman puwedeng sabay-sabay tatakbo. Kailangan merong maggi-give way so that’s part of the discussions and the unity talks,” he added.

(That was discussed because that's part of unity talks. They cannot run all at the same time. Someone should give way so that's part of the discussions and the unity talks.)

Asked whether Robredo is open to the idea, Pangilinan said: “If that is something that will unite everyone, why not? I mean she’s open to the discussion, but like I said, I cannot speak on her behalf.”

On Tuesday, Robredo said she is sill in “deep discernment” as to what she should do in connection with next year’s elections.

The Liberal Party’s highest elected official has at least one week to decide on her Eleksyon 2022 plans as the filing of the certificate of candidacy is scheduled on October 1 to 8.

Robredo has yet to announce the position she will seek in the 2022 polls but she assured her partymates that she will make the necessary decision at the right time.

“The bottomline is I am aware that being a Liberal means, at the end of the day, always doing right by the country,” added Robredo, LP chairperson.
