DOJ files drug case vs. Julian Ongpin before La Union court

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday filed a charge for possession of illegal drugs against Julian Ongpin at the Regional Trial Court in San Fernando, La Union.

Assistant State Prosecutor Honey Delgado of the Office of the Prosecutor General confirmed the filing in a message to reporters.

“Yes, it was already filed in court today. We don’t know yet kung saan branch ng RTC po siya mara-raffle,” Delgado said.

Delgado said no arrest warrant had been issued against Ongpin.

On Monday, the DOJ indicted Ongpin for possession of cocaine. Police found 12 grams of cocaine found in Ongpin’s room in a beach resort in La Union where artist Bree Jonson was found dead in September.

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said that the indictment showed that the justice system in the country was working.

Ongpin is also a person of interest in the death of Jonson.

Jonson's mother, taking note of the scars on Ongpin's arm, believes her daughter fought for her life and did not commit suicide.

Ongpin, meanwhile, said he got the wounds after forcibly opening the door of the restroom to free Jonson, who allegedly locked herself in.

He also denied having a disagreement with Jonson on the same day she was found lifeless.

Both Ongpin and Jonson tested positive for cocaine. -NB, GMA News
