Almost 30,000 families affected due to Mindanao quakes —NDRRMC


The number of families affected due to the Mindanao earthquakes has reached 29,349 or 146,745 people, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Saturday morning in its situational report.

They were in 149 barangays in Regions XI and XII.

A total of 4,127 families or 20,635 people were staying in 27 evacuation centers while 1,370 families (6,850 people) were outside evacuation centers.

The death toll remained at 17, while the number of missing was still pegged at two. Those injured numbered 327.

Tulunan, Cotabato was rocked by a magnitude 6.6 earthquake on Tuesday morning, then a magnitude 6.5 quake on Thursday morning.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said aftershocks were still expected.

One such aftershock occurred early Saturday morning, with magnitude 4.5.

Infrastructure

Meanwhile, 28,222 infrastructure were reported damaged as of Saturday morning. These are in Regions IX, X, XI, XII and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Of this number, 27,350 are houses, 757 were schools, and 37 were health facilities.

A code blue alert has been raised by the Health Emergency Management Bureau.

A total of P15,200,373 has been given so far to affected families as assistance by the Department of Social Welfare and Development and the Office of Civil Defense in Region XI. —KG, GMA News
