Classes in quake-hit Davao City to resume on Nov. 5 —Mayor Sara

Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte on Sunday announced that the resumption of all classes in the city is set on Tuesday (November 5), days after a magnitude-6.5 earthquake-hit Mindanao.

She noted that the resumption of classes was set for Tuesday to give school authorities time to thoroughly inspect school buildings on Monday, and to review plans for the safety of students and employees.

“Classes, from kindergarten to post-graduate studies, in public and private educational institutions will resume Tuesday, November 5,” Mayor Sara said in a statement.

“School authorities are mandated to spend November 4 as a day to thoroughly inspect schools buildings, review earthquake action plans, and disaster manual to ensure the safety of the students and employees,” she added.

Aside from these, school authorities are also expected to conduct earthquake and fire drills at least once a month. They are also advised to provide students with experts who will assist them in easing stress, trauma, and anxiety triggered by the series of earthquakes.

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake rocked parts of southern Philippines on October 31, following strong temblors that successively stuck on October 16, and 29.

Two of the three successive strong earthquakes that jolted Mindanao late last month, left at least 21 people dead, 432 injured, and two missing, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council’s (NDRRMC) said Sunday. —Joviland Rita/LBG, GMA News
