4,500 residents evacuated in CamSur ahead of Tisoy landfall

Around 4,500 residents in Camarines Sur have been forcibly evacuated by local authorities ahead of the expected landfall of Typhoon Tisoy in the Bicol Region between Monday night and Tuesday morning.

According to a Monday report on GMA News TV's Balitanghali, soldiers, cops, members of the fire bureau, and other volunteers went from house to house to explain to residents the possible impact Tisoy may have on the area.

The Camarines Sur Provincial Government said the evacuated residents were from Cabusao, Minalabac, Caramoan, Garchitorena, Sagnay, Siruma, Tigaon, Tinambac, and Buhi.

“Based po sa PAGASA, ang Lagonoy area ay isa sa target, redzone… Daraanan tayo ng mata ng bagyo,” Lagonoy Fire Bureau official Roberto Sta. Clara said.

State weather bureau PAGASA earlier warned of possible storm surges and landslides due to the cyclone. 

The local government also removed defunct streetlamps to avoid accidents.

Authorities assured residents that they have enough supply of relief goods.

Preparations across PHL

Meanwhile in Albay, thousands of residents also evacuated their homes in preparation for the typhoon.

“Inaano namin ‘yung tubig, ‘yung mga lahar, ‘yun ang iniingatan namin kasi wala naman kaming matatakbuhan. Mas mabuting nasa evacuation center kami para ligtas lahat,” Marites Belchez, a Guinobatan resident, said.

The municipal disaster management office said evacuees have nothing to worry about as relief packs have already been prepared.

In Naga City, almost 700 individuals also evacuated.

In Virac, Catanduanes, residents were seen lining up at hardware stores to purchase materials to reinforce their houses.

In Calaca, Batangas, 40 barangay captains convened to discuss preparations for the typhoon while policemen went from house to house to warn residents who live by the shore of the possible impact of Tisoy.

In Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, the local disaster management office has already begun packing relief goods such as rice, canned goods, and instant noodles.

In Cebu City, many passengers were left stranded after roro trips to Ormoc City and Bohol were canceled.

Boat trips from Bohol to Leyte were likewise canceled.

In Matnog Port, Sorsogon, over 1,600 passengers were stranded. — Julia Mari Ornedo/RSJ, GMA News
