Davao gov't cancels all events, advises residents to stay indoors amid COVID-19



The Davao City Government on Thursday released a set of guidelines for the public and its offices amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Under Guideline No. 7, Davao Mayor Sara Duterte ordered the cancellation of all meetings, conventions, exhibits, conferences, parties, and other social activities.

The mayor has also directed all schools from kindergarten to post-graduate studies to cancel classes and shift to online sessions and take-home assignments.

Due to this, all recognition and graduation ceremonies shall also be postponed.

Events of all restaurants, hotels, and other event centers were also ordered postponed.

Meanwhile, all department heads were ordered to create a work from home plan for most employees while offices are required to create a minimum workforce to ensure that government work will not be disturbed.

The mayor has also suspended the visitation hours for all city government offices.

According to the guideline, all submissions to the city government shall be received in Almendras Gym or the Davao City Recreation Center where a designated person will receive and record them.

The directive stressed that residents of Davao City should stay at home instead of going to public places.

They were also advised to refrain from attending masses, prayer meetings, and other gatherings.

The guidelines are expected to last until the public health emergency declared by President Rodrigo Duterte has been lifted.
