Heavy rains from Lannie cause flooding in several areas


Several areas got flooded on Monday due to heavy rains from Tropical Depression Lannie, according to a report by Raffy Tima on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

In Tanjay, Negros Oriental, a man slipped and fell into the spillway. Stranded residents were able to pull him to safety.

In Bais City, Negros Oriental, a river overflowed its banks, flooding the riverside community. At least 50 families were evacuated.

Flooding was also reported in Barangay Capiz in Alangalang, Leyte.

In Loay, Bohol, the Philippine Coast Guard rescued a family of three after their boat flipped over due to the big waves.

Heavy rains were also experienced in Bohol and Butuan City.

In Zamboanga City meanwhile, the scheduled COVID-19 vaccination was canceled in Barangay Talisayan due to flooding in residential areas and rice fields. At least 20 families were evacuated.

Meanwhile, in Luzon, heavy rains were also felt in Isabela and Cagayan, causing the river to overflow its banks.

Other areas

In Cebu City and Talisay City meanwhile, there were some landslides due to heavy rains, according to a report by GMA Regional TV Live anchor Nikko Sereno on GMA News' Unang Balita on Tuesday.

Some passengers were stranded in ports after the Philippine Coast Guard canceled boat trips in parts of Visayas and Mindanao.

 

In Bohol, a river overflowed its banks in Tagbilaran City, flooding the riverside community.

A river also overflowed in Maasim City, Southern Leyte, flooding even the downtown area.

Some houses in San Enrique, Iloilo were likewise flooded.

Meanwhile, in  Tugbungan, Zamboanga City, teachers at the Tugbungan Elementary School went on with their practice for their dance number for World Teachers Day despite the flood.

PAGASA on Tuesday said Lannie was over the Cuyo West Pass and moving towards the Calamian Islands as of 4 a.m.

Lannie has maximum sustained winds of 45 kilometers per hour near the center with gustiness of up to 55 km/h, and central pressure of 1002 hPa and moving northwestward at 25 km/h.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 was hoisted over the following areas:

  • the southwestern portion of Romblon (Odiongan, Looc, Alcantara, Ferrol, Santa Fe, San Jose)
  • the southern portion of Oriental Mindoro (Roxas, Mansalay, Bulalacao)
  • the southern portion of Occidental Mindoro (Calintaan, Rizal, San Jose, Magsaysay)
  • the northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Dumaran, Araceli) including Calamian and Cuyo Islands
  • Antique
  • the western portion of Aklan (Madalag, Malinao, Ibajay, Nabas, Malay, Buruanga)

 

Lannie is forecast to make another landfall in the vicinity of northern mainland Palawan or Calamian Islands this morning before emerging over the West Philippine Sea. —KG, GMA News
