New Historic Filipino town marker unveiled in October

A welcome marker that will lead to the Historic Filipinotown in Los Angeles is set to be unveiled this year, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday.

In a statement, the DFA said Consul General Edgar Badajos with Jessica Caloza, City of Los Angeles Commissioner for the Board of Public Works, to discuss the Historic Filipinotown Eastern Gateway Project.

Historic Filipinotown is a residential area which also features restaurants which offer Filipino fare.

It was named in 2019 as one of the 50 coolest neighborhoods in the world by the global media company Time Out.

Caloza said the gateway, which will be the largest and "most famous Filipino-American artwork," will be unveiled in October 2021.

The gateway is also designed by Eliseo Silva, who is the creator of the Gintong Kasaysayan mural at Unidad Park at the Historic Filipinotown.

Caloza also reported the activities of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Committee (APAHMC) where she was appointed as one of the co-chairs.

APAHMC will celebrate the contributions of  Asian and Asia-Pacific Islander communities in Los Angeles to promote their culture and end prevailing hate crimes against the group.

Badajos, for his part, said he will support Caloza and her committee's  activities that will help address the increase of hate crimes against AAPI in the United States. —NB, GMA News
