Adobe issues security update for Flash player
Less than a week after announcing it is abandoning development of Flash for mobile, Adobe Systems issued a security update for its Flash player software. Adobe said the update addresses vulnerabilities that affect Flash for all platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris, as well as Android. "These vulnerabilities could cause a crash and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system," it said. It categorized the update as critical and recommended that users upgrade their installations to the newest versions soonest. Adobe urged users of Adobe Flash Player 11.0.1.152 and earlier to update to Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.55. It added users of Flash Player 11.0.1.153 and earlier for Android should update to Adobe Flash Player 11.1.102.59 for Android. On the other hand, it said users of Adobe AIR 3.0 for Windows, Macintosh, and Android should update to Adobe AIR 3.1.0.4880. Users who cannot update to Flash Player 11.1.102.55 may download a patched version of Flash Player 10. A separate article on tech site Mashable said the new version fixes many critical memory corruption, stack overflow and buffer overflow vulnerabilities. But it said that while Flash Player 11 is the last major version, this latest update will not be the last security update for mobile Flash. “Adobe will continue to ship security updates for Flash Player mobile after the final feature release," Adobe’s senior director of product security and privacy Brad Arkin said on Twitter. — TJD, GMA News
