Mapua underscores AI integration in higher education

With the advancement of artificial intelligence (AI), Mapua University has partnered with Arizona State University (ASU) to integrate the new technology into higher education.
On Wednesday, Mapua president Dodjie Maestrecampo said the university is now offering AI-related modules to its faculty and staff, such as Basic Prompt Engineering with ChatGPT: An Introduction and AI Foundations: Scripting ChatGPT with Python, which enable learners to use the general-purpose programming language of Python scripting to create human-like text generation models.
The modules aim to enable them to seamlessly integrate AI into their curricula.
“We are nearing a future where the use of AI will be rampant. As early as now, we must empower future generations of professionals to use these tools responsibly in ways that support and complement human intelligence and capabilities,” he said in his speech during an event at the Mapua University Makati campus.
“These efforts are in step with our mission to form future-ready, tech-oriented learners and to set the standard for AI-integrated education in the country,” he said.
More AI courses will be offered to Mapua students soon, he added.
“We stand in an exciting time for innovation, and we look forward to exploring and expanding the impact of AI in higher education with Mapúa University,” Rick Shangraw, Ph.D., president of Cintana Education and former senior vice president for research and innovation at ASU, said.
Apart from the impact of AI on higher education, the two universities likewise discussed the implications of the technology in the professional landscape. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
