Countries in the Northern Hemisphere will experience the longest day on June 21, while a meteor shower will be visible starting June 22, PAGASA said Sunday.

The state weather bureau said June 21 marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere and winter in the Southern Hemisphere.

“This happens when the sun reaches the most northerly point in the sky, and so on June 21, here in the northern hemisphere, we will experience the longest day and the shortest night,” PAGASA said.

Meanwhile, the June Bootid meteor shower is active from June 22 to July 2.

Citing the International Meteor Organization, PAGASA said the meteor shower will reach its peak activity on June 27.

“Classified as a variable meteor shower, it is best seen during the evening hours,” PAGASA said.

The June Bootid meteor shower is formed when the Earth passes through the dusty debris trail left behind by the short-period comet 7P/Pons-Winnecke. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/RF, GMA News
