Domeng, Habagat to bring rains over parts of PH

Typhoon Domeng and the Southwest Monsoon or "Habagat" will continue to bring rains over large parts of the country, including Metro Manila, while the cyclone remains east of Batanes, the state weather bureau PAGASA said Sunday.

In its 4 a.m. public weather forecast, PAGASA said the center of the eye of Typhoon Domeng (international name: Jangmi) was estimated at 670 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 3 a.m.

Domeng was packing maximum sustained winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts of up to 150 kph while moving north-northwestward at 20 kph.

Metro Manila, Calabarzon, Bicol Region, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the Southwest Monsoon.

PAGASA warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas may trigger flash floods or landslides.

The state weather bureau said the Habagat 2026 season started Saturday, May 30. It is one of the precursors of the onset of the rainy season.

Meanwhile, Central Luzon, Cagayan, and Isabela will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the trough of Typhoon Domeng, with moderate to at times heavy rains that may also cause flash floods or landslides.

The rest of the country will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA warned of possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms.

Northern Luzon will experience moderate to strong winds coming from the northeast to northwest, with moderate to rough coastal waters ranging from 1.2 to 3.4 meters.

Central Luzon and the rest of the country will have light to moderate winds, with slight to moderate coastal waters ranging from 0.6 to 2.5 meters.

PAGASA said sunrise on Sunday will be at 5:26 a.m. while sunset is expected at 6:22 p.m. —MCG/KG, GMA News
